Les Cayes' Spiritual Highlight of the Year!

Held in August each year, the BEM Grand Convention is focused on the celebration of the spiritual accomplishment of BEM for the year. All of our churches come together with thier choirs singing songs selected from a theme for each annual convention. This is an outstanding event for all churches and visiting missionaries involved.

Prior to the 3-day celebration, a team of teachers and missionaries from the United States hold a pastoral conference. Teaching at this conference follows the same theme as the Grand Convention where local area pastors are taught and encouraged by the Word of God. Some pastors come from as far as 10 hours away. Some walk for 5 hours before reaching any civilization. These pastors endure great hardship on their way, but regardless of these difficulties, press their way to the Grand Convention because they know in the end it will be a great source of encouragement and spiritual accomplishment.

The date of mid August was chosen because August 15th is the anniversary of the city of Les Cayes. There are many festivities held for this occasion and people come from the US, Canada and the DR to celebrate Notre Dame, which is the patron of the city of Les Cayes. One of Les Cayes' favorite attraction is Gelee Beach, which is usually packed with un-saved people doing what un-saved people do! The Grand Convention provides an alternative for the Christians to celebrate not only the anniversary of the city but more importantly, what God is doing in their lives. This event is broadcast on radio and 2 television stations throughout the island and other countries in the Carribean with an approximate audience of 10,000,000 people.
