To help Haitian people cook their food less expensively and to help reduce the amount of trees that are cut down each year for the purpose of making charcoal.
80 years ago, Haiti was 60% forested. Today less than 2% is forested.
Solar Ovens to be made by people in Haiti
They will be made inexpensively (Under $10.00)
Ovens will be made of available material, as much as possible.
People will be taught how to use them and why it is necessary to save trees from being cut down.
People will be taught that money can be saved by using solar cookers ($2.30 per week is presently spent for firewood. That can be reduced by 70 %)
People will learn that water can be pasteurized and made safe to drink at 150 egrees which is easily accomplished with solar cookers.
